GREENSBORO, NC – Mary Ann Hofler Davis, 79, died on February 24, 2016 at Beacon Place in Greensboro, NC.

She was the daughter of Paul and Mary Nell Phillips Hofler of Gatesville. Mr. Hofler was co-owner of Rountree Hofler Funeral Home.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her only sister, Haseltine Hofler Edmisten.

She graduated from Gates County High School in 1954 where she was editor of the Goober Yearbook. She graduated from St. Mary’s College in 1956 and UNC-Chapel Hill in 1958 as a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She received her master’s degree in social work from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1960.

Mary Ann was a member of the Junior League of Greensboro. She was an advocate for the mentally ill and elderly and served as founder and director of Corporation of Guardianship, an organization that takes guardianship of those without family.

She is survived by children, Bert Davis, Jr., Ann Davis Legette (Wade) and Paul Barksdale Davis (Meghan), and grandsons McAuley Davis, Wade Legette, Porter Davis and Jim Legette.

An interment ceremony for Mary Ann’s ashes will take place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Gatesville Cemetery.
