CORAPEAKE – Scott Mason, known as “The Tar Heel Traveler,” recently contacted the Gates County Chamber of Commerce about featuring Corapeake Country Restaurant in a cover story.

Mason and his cameraman Sean Braswell have been traveling for years across North Carolina, sharing the unique stories they discover on WRAL-TV.

Mason is also the author of five books: “Tar Heel Traveler’s Good Eats: 101 Down-Home North Carolina Classics” (2020), “Tar Heel Traveler: New Journeys Across North Carolina” (2019), “Fair and Air: The Miracle List” (2018), “Tar Heel Traveler Eats: Food Journeys Across North Carolina” (2014), “Tar Heel Traveler: Journeys Across North Carolina” (2010).

He is the winner of more than 100 journalism awards, including national Edward R. Murrow Awards; regional Emmys; the Gabriel Award, the National Headliner Award and two North Carolina TV Reporter of the Year awards.

Chamber representatives Karen Bagley, Cecil Bagley, and Marie Allen met with Mason and his cameraman for the feature. They brought local products to showcase, including peanuts from Lane Farm Supply, honey from C&A’s Apiary, and sausage from Spence Fields.

During the visit, Mason conducted interviews with Gary Casper, owner of Corapeake Country Restaurant, as well as with Cecil, Karen, and Marie from the Chamber. His storytelling approach, which has made him a beloved figure in North Carolina journalism, helped capture the authentic charm of Corapeake Country Restaurant.

This successful collaboration has led to plans for future business features and interviews between the Chamber and Mason, promising more exposure for our local businesses on his widely-watched segments.

Be sure to tune in to WRAL-TV to watch the Corapeake Country Restaurant feature. Tar Heel Traveler segments air at 5:55 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays.
