WILLIAMSBURG, VA – Former Gates County resident Janet Morris Belvin has written a novel set during World War II in England and Germany.

“The Amazing Grace”, a 229-page historical romance, is set in an airbase in London, a farm in Sunbury, North Carolina and a prisoner of war camp in Germany. The novel, Belvin’s fifth book, is set in the 1940s when Hitler’s Nazi war machine is destroying lives and swallowing up lands in Europe. It’s an extraordinary book that reminds readers of the power of love and courage in the face of the darkest adversity.

When a beautiful nurse and a self-assured bomber pilot meet at a USO dance, sparks fly, though not always positive ones. But when they meet again in Nazi Germany, enemy guns pointed at their chests, they wonder if they will ever find their way back home.

With locations in North Carolina and Virginia as well as London, France and Germany, this work of historical fiction brings together two people determined to help the war effort and get back home.

For readers of romance and war novels, this World War II story thrusts dangers from the German Wehrmacht into the lives of the two young Americans. On furlough in London, the pilot and the nurse meet for a brief respite from the horrors of war and it looks like true love. But then, their world collides with that of their Nazi captors. Now they’ve got one major problem – how to escape the Nazi war machine.

Belvin is the author of Southern Stories from the Porch Swing, her memoir published in 2018, as well as her novels The Refuge, The Bookshop on Beach Road, and Sycamore Hill. The mother of three and grandmother of nine, she lives in Williamsburg, VA with her husband Paul and is a former teacher at Gates County High School. She is an occasional columnist for the Gates County Index and writes for magazines and newspapers in North and South Carolina.

The eBook version of The Amazing Grace will be available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Books a Million and other bookstores on Sept. 9. The print version will be available at those sites on Sept. 16, but either version is available immediately at Belvin’s online bookshop https://store.bookbaby.com/book/the-amazing-grace.
