HOBBSVILLE, NC – Mary Louise Spivey, 90, of NC 32 South, died Thursday, December 14, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Dunn.
Born in Gates County on August 6, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Willard H. and Mary Ann Umphlett Spivey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Fletcher “Pop” Spivey, Sr.; her brother, W. Edgar Spivey; and two nephews, Mike and Bart Perry.
Mary Louise graduated from Hobbsville High School in 1952, and in addition to being a homemaker, wife, and mother, she worked at Carter’s Ink, later Pelikan Manufacturing, in Edenton. She loved her family, her independence, and flower gardening.
Surviving are her children, John F. Spivey, Jr. (wife, Susan) of Raleigh, and Cindy Spivey Smith (husband, Chris) of Dunn; and four grandchildren, Charlie Smith of Pittsboro, Allie Smith of Florence, SC, Joe Rittiner of Durham, and Mike Rittiner of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara S. Perry (husband, T.E.); her sister-in-law, Linda D. Spivey; nieces, Kaye Spivey and Tanya Perry Maieski (husband, Rick); a niece-in-law, Missy Perry; and a nephew, Brian E. Spivey, all of Hobbsville.
A graveside service will be held Monday, December 18th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Spivey Family Cemetery, 354 Punchbowl Road, Hobbsville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Blanchard. Friends may visit with the family at the grave immediately following the service.
