HOBBSVILLE, NC – Mae Boyce Spivey, 87, of 345 Gliden Road, died Thursday, November 23, 2023 in her home where she was cared for by her family. It had been her prayer to “go home”, to see her mother and loved ones gone before and God answered that prayer on Thanksgiving night.
Born on September 27, 1936, and raised on Rocky Hock Creek Road in Chowan County, she was one of six children born to the late Charlie Frank and Bessie Layton Boyce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Grace Britton, Pearl Faircloth, and Dorothy White, and by her brother, Waverly Boyce.
A graduate of Chowan High School, after Business College she worked with Farmer’s Bank of Sunbury and continued with the company after its merger with First Citizens Bank & Trust, retiring from the Sunbury branch as Vice President of Operations. As long as health permitted, she was a faithful member of Warwick Baptist Church.
Surviving is her husband of nearly 64 years, Roger Copeland Spivey; their children, Desiree S. Blanchard (husband, Rube) of Hobbsville and Kelly Spivey (wife, Jennifer) of Washington, NC; and her sister, Faye B. Davis of Carrollton, VA. She was “Meme” to five grandchildren, Melinda Erin Forward (Jason), Aaron Hunter Blanchard (Vanessa), and Jacob Thomas, Graham Dixon, and Layton Paul Spivey; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline Mae and Bryson Kelly Forward.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, November 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Blanchard. The burial at a later time will be on the Spivey family plot at Warwick Baptist Church.
There will be no formal visitation or receiving at the funeral home, however friends are invited to visit the family at the residence.
