CORAPEAKE – A local motorist wound up with more than a speeding ticket near here last month.
Gates County Sheriff Ray Campbell reports that on Dec. 22, members of the GCSO Patrol Division were conducting stationary speed enforcement on NC 32 near Corapeake.
During this time, a motorist – identified as Javelle Boone – was stopped for traveling 78 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.
Campbell said that during contact with Boone, a firearm was observed in plain view. Boone was determined to be a convicted felon and taken into custody.
Boone was brought before a Magistrate and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, reckless driving, speeding, no operator’s license, and possession of an open container.
Boone was taken to the Hertford County Jail where he was held under a $10,000 secured bond.
