HOBBSVILLE, NC – Elva Mae Britt Riddick, 96, of 893 Acorn Hill Road, died Friday, November 8, 2024 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Riddick was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on July 6, 1928, and was the daughter of the late William Gurney and Etta Iuliano Britt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Riddick; her daughter, Patty Jo Riddick Pulley; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann “Pat” Riddick; and by her sisters, infant Helen Britt, Charlotte Evans, and Rosalie Hollowell.

A homemaker, Mrs. Riddick was a faithful member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

Surviving are her children, Rita R. Corprew (Bobby) of Hertford, and Billy Riddick of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Connie Smithson (W.E.), Jay Corprew (Kristie), William A. Riddick (Dana), Alan Corprew (Rebecca), and Kimberly Riddick; 11 great-grandchildren, Cody Sawyer, Dustin Winslow (Adrianna), Michael Corprew (Toni), Jonathan Corprew (Marla), Katelyn Moody (Tyler), Dean Austin Corprew (Kristy), Fantasia Saunders (Bubba), Kaitlyn Riddick, Will Riddick, Tiffany Willoughby, and Patrick Morgan; 11 great-great-grandchildren, Isla Winslow, Aubrielle Corprew, Elijah Corprew, Jamison Moody, Korie Moody, Novella Saunders, Kaiden Corprew, Ellie Mae Corprew, Evelia Corprew, Savannah Willoughby, and Riley Willoughby; and many extended members of the Britt and Riddick families.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 10 in Sandy Cross Baptist Church and were conducted by her nephew, The Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor, and by her grandson, Evangelist Jay Corprew. A private burial followed in the Riddick Family Cemetery near the home. Friends joined the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service, and at the residence on the day before and of the service.
