HOSA Blood Drive

GCHS HOSA hosted a Blood drive on Friday, Oct. 18 from 8-1:30. HOSA tried to meet their goal of 37 people to give blood and exceeded this goal by having 50 people come. We had over 30 pints donated!

If you are 16 years or older and over 110 pounds, please consider donating blood in March (2025) as HOSA will be hosting another blood drive!

There is a huge need for blood due to the hurricane, and we could really use as much as we can get.

Thank you to all who came out and supported our GCHS HOSA Club! Your donations are greatly appreciated! Go Barons!

GCHS Marching Band

The GCHS Marching Band competed in the Pasquotank band competition on 10-19-24, performing their show, Bloom.

The band won 2nd place Drum Major, 3rd place Color Guard, 2nd place Percussion, 2nd place General Effect, 2nd place Visual Effect, 2nd place Overall in Class 1A.   Congratulations to the GCHS marching band for their awards.

The GCHS Marching Band competed in the Snow Hill competition on 10- 26-24 performing their show, Bloom. The band won 1st place Drum Major, 1st place Color Guard, 2nd place Percussion, 2nd place Visual Effect, 1st place General Effect, 3rd place Music, and 1st place Overall in their Class.

Congratulations to the marching band and good luck at the last competition at Cary on Nov 2.

GCHS Trail Blazers

The Trailblazers went to the mill pond, from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon (Oct 24th to the 25th). The members had to build a campfire and pitch their tents for the night.

After the camp was set up, they told stories around the campfire and made s’mores and hot dogs. The members listened to an owl while sitting around the campfire. Once they were all done eating, they had to clean everything they used so they could use the equipment in the morning.

Once everyone woke up they made eggs and sausage in cast iron pans on an open fire. After cleaning and packing up the tents, the members went hiking. They saw a delay’s brown snake which is not poisonous.

The trailblazers are planning more outdoor trips in the future. If you are interested in signing up, talk to Mrs. McKinley and/or Mrs. Kittrell.

The Trailblazers are accepting donations of lightly used camping equipment to use for outings. If you would like to donate equipment, please contact Mrs. Kittrell or Mrs. McKinley at GCHS, 357-0720. Go Barons!

Volunteer work

If you are interested in going to college, you most likely want to receive a scholarship. There are a lot of factors that go into getting a scholarship and volunteer work is one!

There are not very many scholarships that will be given to a person who is not actively volunteering so begin thinking about this now.
