Early voting continues to attract record turnout

Early voting across North Carolina continues on a record-setting pace.
As of Monday (Oct. 21), 1,279,576 ballots have been cast. An additional 1,016,060 absentee by mail votes have already been tabulated. That brings the total to 1,381,182 votes cast thus far. That number represents 17.73 percent of the state’s 7,791,810 registered voters.
Early voting for 2024 thus far is ahead of the 2020 (1,229,850) and 2016 (579,875) elections at this stage of the cycle (14 days prior to Election Day).
Of the total votes cast statewide through Oct. 21, 483,075 were by those registered as Democrats, 463,913 by Republicans, and 427,551 by Unaffiliated voters. The remainder were by Libertarian, Green, No Labels, Constitution, We The People, and Justice For All political party voters.
Locally, a combined 7,881 ballots were cast through Oct. 21 at the early voting locations in Bertie (2,441), Gates (1,103), Hertford (2,105), and Northampton (2,232) counties.
Adding in the absentee by mail ballots counted through Oct. 21, a total of 8,068 votes have been cast locally.
In-person early voting continues through Saturday, November 2 at 419 sites statewide.
The early voting site in Gates County is located at the Board of Elections Office (25 Medical Center Road, Gates). Hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on three Saturdays (Oct. 19, Oct. 26, and Nov. 2).
