EURE, NC – Kenneth Scott “Ken” Lighton, SCPO, USN Retired, 62, of 1329 NC 137, Eure, died Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in Warren County, NC as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Lighton was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on July 17, 1962, and was the son of the late Paul G. Lighton and Barbara Keen Minchew.

Senior Chief Lighton served in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a veteran of the Gulf War before retiring in 2003. He then worked Civil Service, continuing to serve the Navy at Commander Navy Reserve Forces Atlantic (CNRF), retiring from that position in 2023.

Since moving to the Eure community in 2021, he was a member of the Eure Volunteer Fire Department, Hall Ruritan Club, White Oak Hunt Club, Beechwood Country Club, and faithfully attended Abundant Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Jo Lighton; their children, Michelle Hernandez (husband, Orlando) of Raleigh, NC, A.J. Lighton (wife, Hunter) of Elizabeth City, and T.J. Lighton (wife, Shelby) of Palmyra, VA; two grandchildren, Camden Lighton and Hayes Hernandez; his step-mother, Jane Beley Lighton of Naples, FL; his sister, Karen Foard (husband, Steve) of State College, PA, and his brother, Alan Lighton (wife, Joanne) of Carlsbad, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and faithful canine companions, Shaka and Cali.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 13, at 2:00 p.m. in Abundant Hope Church and will be conducted by his pastor, Walter Black. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Navy. The inurnment will be private in the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.
