AHOSKIE – Fybe, a fiber broadband service provider and a subsidiary of Roanoke Cooperative, confirms its completion of expanding services in Gates County.
The expansion brings fiber internet to almost 5,000 homes and businesses in the county.
“Fybe is proud to be a partner in growth as we expand into Gates County. This completed expansion is a testament to our resilience and commitment to overcoming challenging obstacles, allowing us to better support the needs of this community,” said Bo Coughlin, COO of Fybe.
Each new construction includes fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology, commonly known as fiber internet. These broadband connections can reach speeds up to 1 Gbps and use a fiber-optic cable, which can send data as fast as about 70% of the speed of light.
In addition, fiber-optic cables are not as susceptible to severe weather conditions as other types of traditional cables, which helps minimize outages and effectively resists electrical interference.
“The Board of Commissioners recognizes the crucial role of broadband in the everyday lives of our citizens in Gates County, from education, telehealth, first responder communications, local government operations, and individual households,” stated Dr. Althea Riddick, Chair of the Gates County Board of Commissioners.
“Fybe has assisted Gates County in making impressive advancements as we have moved from a few households with limited broadband access to expanding fiber internet to almost 5,000 homes and businesses. This expansion will uplift our community and open doors to greater opportunities,” Riddick added.
Fybe, an initiative spearheaded by Roanoke Connect Holdings, LLC, a subsidiary of Roanoke Cooperative, is building its broadband network to provide high-speed internet to counties in North Carolina. Fybe offers residential and business customers broadband internet, voice services, and smart grid energy efficiency capabilities.
