SUNBURY, NC – Anne H. Hollowell, 81, of Sunbury, NC died Thursday, October 5, 2023 in her home.
Mrs. Hollowell was born in Gates County on July 31, 1942, the youngest of seven children of the late Alfred, Sr. and Jimmie Riddick Hollowell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jennings Wayne Bunch, Sr. and by her second husband, Robert Paul “Bobby” Hollowell, Jr.; and her siblings, James Hollowell, Alfred Hollowell, Jr., Erma Miller, and Juanita Fisher.
A 1960 graduate of Sunbury High School, she worked for 25 years as the secretary at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Suffolk, VA. She was a faithful member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, the church in which she attended with her family as a little girl.
Surviving are her children, Patricia Bunch Jordan (husband, Gene) of Tyner and Jennings W. Bunch, Jr. (wife, Courtnay) of Knightdale; two sisters, Vera Snider of Virginia Beach, VA and Jean Hobbs of Hobbsville; and five grandchildren, Caroline Jordan (husband, Ed Conrad), Grace Jordan, Noah Jordan, Jennings W. “Tripp” Bunch, III, and Alexandra Bunch. Also surviving are Bobby’s sons and their families, Robert Paul Hollowell, III (wife, Sharon) of Elizabeth City, David Lee Hollowell, Sr. (wife, Lori) of Eure, and Michael Neil Hollowell (wife, Deedra) of Alaska.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Tim Dannelly. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the social hall immediately following the service. A private burial will be in Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Her children wish to express their appreciation to family and friends who were steadfast in visiting and supporting her during this difficult time. They also wish to acknowledge the support and comfort provided by their incredible team of caregivers, Dawn Jones, Sheila Layden, Kelly McDowell and Linda Stallings, as well as the staff of Gentiva Hospice.
