CHESAPEAKE, VA – Alvin Norman Mullen Parker, 86, of Cricket Hollow Lane in Chesapeake, VA died Friday, August 25, 2023 at his home in Eure, NC.
Mr. Parker was born in Gates County on June 1, 1937 and was one of seven children born to the late James Kindred and Mary Polly Mullen Parker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, DeLoris Speight; and by brothers, Tommy, Douglas, Joe, and Fred Parker.
Retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he was a Production Scheduler, in earlier years he worked there as pipefitter. A member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and a former member of Hall Ruritan Club, he and his wife had lived in Chesapeake for the last 30 years and faithfully attended Good News Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Judith Raby Parker; a brother, Johnnie Blake Parker of Eure; and many nieces, nephews, and extended members of both the Parker and Raby families. Alvin loved his family beyond measure. Family and friends alike will remember his outlook on life as that of his glass always being half-full, never half-empty.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Eric Bass and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family in the social hall of the church immediately following services.
