SUNBURY, NC – Anne Brown Wilson, 84, a longtime resident of Sunbury, NC, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Hampton, VA on March 8, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Hallet Lee Brown and Margaret Minerva Morris Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Haywood Wilson; a brother, Hallet “Hal” Brown, II; a daughter, Jonni Jo W. Harrell; a son, Kenneth Ray Wilson; and by two grandchildren, Addison and Taylor.

A retired teacher’s assistant with Gates County Public Schools, she was a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church, and in earlier years enjoyed fellowship in both Damascus Christian Church and Cypress Chapel Christian Church.

Surviving are her three daughters, Lisa W. Rutter (husband, Bryan) of Chesapeake, VA, Christi W. Williams (husband, Josh) of Elizabeth City, and Jaymi W. Scott (husband, Chris) of Gatesville; a sister, Donna McCuiston of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Jim Brown of Eure; 10 grandchildren, Chelsea, Ashleigh, Tyler, Christian, Carson, Gabriel, Noah, Brayden, Connor, and Harper; and seven great-grandchildren, Peighton, Caleb, Jacob, Promise, Oliver, Aidan, and August.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Burt Pearce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, April 16, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and again in the social hall of the church on Monday immediately following the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Middle Swamp Church, 639 Middle Swamp Road, Corapeake, NC 27926, or to any chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
